Republican candidate Donald Trump and his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris are gearing up for their first Presidential debate on September 10. Ahead of the much-anticipated event, Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, shared insights into their personal debates as a couple during an interview with “Pod Save America.”
Emhoff, a lawyer like his wife, revealed that despite their frequent debates, he has never won a single one against her. He praised Harris as a “great debater” and a “first-class trial lawyer.”
In the interview, co-host Tommy Vietor asked Emhoff, “What should we expect from the debate between Harris and Trump?” Emhoff humorously admitted, “I haven’t won one [debate] against her.” He explained that Harris, who was the district attorney of San Francisco and California’s attorney general before her political career, has a knack for laying “little traps” in conversations, much like a skilled lawyer.
Before entering politics, Emhoff himself was a partner at DLA Piper, specializing in intellectual property and entertainment law. Despite his own legal prowess, he acknowledged Harris’ superior debate skills.
The couple recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, with Emhoff expressing admiration for his wife both personally and politically. He has previously stated, “At this moment in this nation’s history, she is exactly the right president.”
The debate, hosted by ABC News, will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, marking the first time Harris and Trump will meet on the debate stage. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, at 9 p.m. ET.
